Tell us who you are?

I’m Dr Maria Abid, your friendly neighbourhood Dermatologist and Aesthetic Physician. I’m a mother of two lovely daughters and wife to the most supporting husband.

How did you get the idea about this profession?

I was always passionate about becoming a dermatologist, after my graduation(MBBS) from Dow Medical College and initial year of internship I opted for FCPS residency program in Dermatology. This five year training gave me extensive experience in the field.

What was your mission at the time of starting it?

In the era where there’s a lot of quackery and malpractice I wished to provide best possible management plan to my patients. I’m a strong believer of medical ethics. I always try my best to explain my patients in detail about their skin concerns and advise only what’s right for them.

What services do you offer?

I manage all skin-hair-nail diseases. I have special interest in Pediatric dermatology and skin surgeries. I do all kinds of lasers, Botox, fillers, threadlift, PRP, Microneedling, mesotherapy, chemical peels, IV immuneboost drips and many other aesthetic procedures.

How do you advertise your business?

In medical profession it’s a word of mouth. I’m also active on social media like Facebook/Instagram/Twitter and regularly post about my work and educational content.

What is unique about your profession?

Being a clinical dermatologist and medical aesthetician I can provide my patients with complete solution to their skin problems, from medical treatments to all kinds of aesthetic procedures. I have strong communication and counselling skills which are extremely important in our field when it comes to patients management. I’m constantly attending conferences, seminars, webinars to keep my knowledge up to date and learn new skills and apply them on my patients.

What are your responsibilities as doctor?

I believe If a person is coming to a doctor they are trusting them with their health and this in itself is a big responsibility. When a patient comes to me I make a complete management plan including follow up visit, referral to other specialists if required and assess how much the disease is impacting the quality of life of my patient.

What are your other interests in life?

I’m a home maker and mom of two girls who keep me busy when I’m home. I love to walk in nature and living in Malir Cantt provides ideal environment for evening or late night strolls. I also like cycling, skating, baking, painting and organising my house. While driving I listen to motivational speakers like Prof Javed, Muslim Central. On Netflix you’ll find me watching Korean dramas or home makeover shows like Tidying up with Marie Condo.

How do you envision yourself 10 years from now?

In 10 years I hope to advance further in my field. I picture myself becoming more confident in the files with more knowledge and experience. My goal is to make a bigger and positive impact in the field of dermatology in Pakistan, train my juniors and lead them in reaching their own career goals.

Accomplishment that has given you most satisfaction? Why?

Completing my Fellowship in Dermatology is my biggest professional achievement. It was five long years of training and I had my two daughters during the same period. With full time job, house work, small kids and extensive studies it was not an easy journey. But Alhamdulillah with Allah’s blessings and massive support from my mother, husband and rest of the family I was able to achieve my dream.
